New Visa Waiver Requirements –

Visa Waiver Program refers to a list of countries in which the U.S. allows nationals from a listed country to travel to the U.S. for period of up to 90 days without the requirement of obtaining a visa.  On August 1, 2008, the USCIS (Department of Homeland Security) announced its implementation of the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) on a voluntary basis in which nationals from VWP countries to register in under ESTA prior to departing from the home country and encouraged to register as soon as travel plans are made. ESTA will soon be a mandatory requirement starting January 12, 2009.  At which time, all foreign nationals who intend to come to the U.S under visa waiver must register before the person may enter the U.S.

On October 17, 2008, the Bush Administration announced it intended to expand the list of countries that are currently under VWP to include the Czech Republic, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Hungary, the Republic of Korea and the Slovak Republic. Visa Waivers may not be immediately available for nationals from these new 7 countries until certain internal procedures have been implemented.  The Houston Visa Waiver Attorneys at the Law Offices of Steven Tuan Pham will update such information once VWP are applicable to these new countries.  Should you have any questions regarding ESTA, please contact the Houston Immigration Lawyers of the Law Offices of Steven Tuan Pham
